Khumbu Diaries

I was looking on the UK Climbing website earlier and came across this featured video about a recent Jagged Globe expedition to the Khumbu region of Nepal (where Everest is) to attempt three of the more straightforward peaks in the area around 6,000m. These peaks were Pokalde, Island Peak and Lobuje East; the first two summit were reached but the attempt on Lobuje East had to be called off due to the poor conditions for climbing.

I've trekked in the Himalayas and my next move is to start some climb like these there; I want to do Mera, Island and a few others in the next few year to slowly build up my Himalaya experience towards 8000m. For anyone who feels the same this video is awesome - it shows everything from expedition life to the incredible views and climbing on offer and the trips are far cheaper than attempting something bigger! From my experiences in the region I can say that it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth with the best views and best atmosphere to it; it's an amazingly peaceful place considering the Maoist problems over the years and the fact climbers regularly die in the region.

I hope this video can serve as inspiration for you to make your own trip, whether it's trekking to Base Camp or scaling Cho Oyu, Makalu or even Everest. It's a wonderful place and anybody can go there, whatever their skill level or interest in the outdoors is. Enjoy the video and soak up the beauty of the Khumbu region.
