Explorer's Great & Famous Quotes

"I am just going outside and may be some time."
Captain Lawrence Oates' last words, 1912

We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course and the end cannot be far. It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. For God's sake, look after our people.
Captain Robert Falcon Scott's last diary entry before he died, 1912

"if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won't see why we go. What we get from this adventure is just sheer joy. And joy is, after all, the end of life. We do not live to eat and make money. We eat and make money to be able to enjoy life. That is what life means and what life is for."
George Leigh Mallory talking about Everest

"There is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing."
Ranulph Fiennes

"People do not decide to become extraordinary. They decide to accomplish extraordinary things."
Edmund Hillary

Above are a collection of some great quotes by some of the greatest explorers ever; there are lots of great things that have been said but these are just a selection of my favourites. They can motivate and inspire people to follow in their footsteps and achieve great things. Scott's and Oates's quotes are the last words known to have been said/written by both of them - interesting historically; their bravery and maturity was incredible. They both put others before themselves; a truly admirable trait in a person. All five are/were great men who did great, impressive things. Hopefully these great quotes, and others like them, can inspire you to do great things. Good luck and enjoy your adventures!
