Everest Attire Over Time

I've always been a massive fan of the story of Mallory and Irvine and have wondered, along with many others, whether the two brave men reached the summit of Everest back in 1924 or merely died on the way up. The clothing worn by them when compared to modern Everest climbers Down suits was incredibly basic. Mallory and Irvine wore tweed jackets and layered up with cotton jumpers, they must have been absolutely freezing! Check out the pictures below to show the contrast between then and now:

You can see from the pictures how basic Mallory and Irvine's clothing was compared to modern day equipment. Who knows how they coped with the cold in this kind of clothing? I think their drive to succeed will have pushed them through and beyond the pain barrier but i don't envy the position they were in! Did they make it to the top in this basic clothing? I think they did, but i doubt we'll ever know!
